Toddler car seats are essential when your children are riding with you in your vehicle. One consideration in choosing toddler car seats is car seat safety ratings or regulations. There are also different styles of these car seats from front-facing to convertible car seats. Here are some of the best toddler car seats you should consider on your next purchase.

Toddler Car Seats To Check Out For Your Kids

1. Rear-Facing Infant Safety Seats

These type of car safety seats are usually fastened at the rear seats and positioned facing backward. These are maybe designed for newborn babies to help them carry their weight through their spine and present a lower risk of injury, but you can still use these up to 2 years of age.

Keep your baby warm, cozy and secure with this comfy and well-designed car seat carrier cover that fits all standard baby carriers.

2. Front-Facing Child Safety Seats

A front-facing child safety seat is ideal for toddlers who are lighter than 40 pounds or smaller than their actual age. Children at this age usually learn to interact with their surroundings, so it’s advisable to shift to this type of toddler car seat. You will also have a better view of what your child is doing while you’re in the front seat.

3. Booster Child Safety Seats

This type of car seat is designed to elevate your child up to a safe height for your seatbelt. According to studies, booster child safety seats can reduce the risk of injury through car accident by 45% rather than only using a seat belt.

Trivia: Booster car seats can be in convertible, backless, or high back types to better support your child. You’ll most likely purchase this type of car seat as it is mandatory according to federal law.

4. All-In-One Child Safety Seats

All-in-one child safety seats are multi-functional seats for your child. It can be used as a rear-facing child safety seat for babies, front-facing safety seats for your toddlers, and booster safety seats for your kid. Because of these functions, all-in-one car seats are great bargains because you don’t have to purchase one after the other. Unless your child grows too fast for his or her age, you may then consider buying each type depending on your child’s size.

5. Convertible Child Safety Seats

This little dude loves his Clek Foonf almost as much as we do! We have peace of mind when in the car that he is as safe as he possibly can be. We love that this seat rear faces until 50 Pounds so we have the option to keep him RF for a while. He’s been in this seat since 10 months, is a little over 2, 31 pounds and approx. 34.5” tall. #clekyourride #clekfoonf #clek #hbgboutique #hipbabygear #extendedrearfacing #convertiblecarseat #weekendwarrior #travelsafe #cooldude #carseatsafety #shoplocal #shoplocalma #northshorema #hudsonreyes

Convertible child safety seats can be transformed from a front to a rear-facing infant safety seat, or from a front-facing child safety seat to a booster child safety seat for young kids. But it is not as multi-functional as the all-in-one child car seats.

Note: The harness system of this car seat is somewhat comparable to a rear-facing infant safety seat. The difference? Convertible car seats do have a higher weight limit compared to the rear-facing infant safety seats.

6. 5-Point Harness Child Safety Seats

Most child car seats have a 3-point harness to hold your infant safely. Though when you’re talking about the best safety option, a 5-point harness child car seat can never be overlooked. Some front-facing car seats have this type of harness. It clips from the shoulders to the hips and to the crotch to prevent slippage of the child from the seat.

7. The LATCH Child Safety Seat System

Did you know the weight limit for car seats installed using the LATCH system includes the weight of the car seat? https://t.co/lmV4cAEvWl

Since 2002, most cars in the U.S. have been mandated to have a latch system for child car seats. LATCH is an actually an acronym which means “Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children.” It was put in place to fasten the child safety seat by attaching it to the frame of the vehicle. Vehicles that don’t have this system can have the latch system kits to replicate the anchor system. These alternative latch kits secure the child safety seat to the car seat itself. It acts as a belt for the child safety seat fastening itself to the car seat without the aid of a seat belt.

Want to know what to consider when buying a toddler car seat? Here’s a guide from Consumer Reports:

Your child’s safety should be your primary concern whether you’re deciding to buy a reasonably priced or an expensive car seat. It is also important to check the height and weight limits as well as the build and safety features of the car seat before buying one. You may also want to check the recline angle of the car seat to prevent your child’s head from leaning forward, possibly obstructing his or her breathing.
